Northallerton Tourist Information Centre can provide more information to help you plan and enjoy your stay in Herriot Country. This centre is networked with the Yorkshire Tourist Board and offers an advanced accommodation booking service by telephone as well as an accommodation booking service to personal callers.

Tourist Information Points are situated in some of the towns in Herriot Country and provide information on local attractions, accommodation, events, public transport and other local facilities. The Tourist Information Point in Northallerton is open all year round and those in Bedale, Easingwold and Great Ayton are open from Easter until the end of October.

It's a fact

Charles I is supposed to have resided in Porch House as a visitor before the Civil War--early 1640's and then was a prisoner there when the Scots had handed him over to us about 1647 or so. He tried to escape through a skylight.
